Mr. Md. Emranul Huq Chowdhury started his professional carrier in mid1981 with BRAC after completion of studies under University of Chittagong. He served BRAC in various capacities till May 1989.
In May 1989, he joined UDDIPAN as its Founder Executive Director & CEO. He is one of the Co-founders of UDDIPAN and had been the General Secretary of the organization.
Mr. Chowdhury is a Proven Development Practitioner engaged for more than 4 decades and he has been concentrating to build his career as a Development Practitioner, Researcher, Trainer and Facilitator, Contributor and Writer, Development Advocate, Human Rights Defender.
He is one of the pioneers of Bank- NGO linkage programs, Promoter of Financial Inclusions and Facilitator of Government Development Projects with peoples’ participation. He has been playing the pivotal role in establishing trusted relationship between the Micro Finance Institutions (MFI’s) and their resource providers particularly the Banking and Non-Banking Financial Institutions.
PROFESSIONAL EXCELLENCIES AND SPECIALIZATION
Mr. Chowdhury has special skills in designing, implementing and monitoring of Micro Finance Program, Micro Savings, Micro Insurance, timely and efficient Collection and Delivery of Remittance, Designing Funding Mechanism for Micro Enterprise (ME) and Asset Building for the poor families. Well conversant on the issue of Banking for the poor, he has noteworthy skills in channeling Bank Money to the poor in remote areas and managing the process efficiently with minimum operational cost.
Mr. Chowdhury is in the Board of Credit and Development Forum (CDF) and led CDF as its Chairperson. CDF is the only national level association /network of MFI’s in Bangladesh. All of the MFI’s being licensed by Micro Credit Regulatory Authority (MRA) are the members of CDF.
Mr. Chowdhury is the Vice Chair of the International Networks for Alternative Financial Institution (INAFI) in Bangladesh.
He had been appointed a Member of National Child Rights Committee formed under the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Bangladesh. Mr. Chowdhury was a member of Government Delegate to negotiate with the Government of UAE to bring back the Bangladeshi children being used as Camel Jokies in UAE. Mr. Chowdhury played a very pro- active role as a delegate member in this regard. Mr. Chowdhury has been the Honorary Country Representative of Asian Resource Foundation (ARF) for Bangladesh, an International Development Agency based at Bangkok, Thailand.
Mr. Chowdhury has served as a member of General Committee of Palli Karma Shahayak Foundation (PKSF), for two consecutive terms.
Mr. Chowdhury facilitated sessions for the students of Masters and PHD in the University of Toronto (U of T), Canada as a Visiting Scholar on the issues of “Contemporary Alternative Development Practices: Bangladesh Case” in 2015.
Mr. Chowdhury facilitated a discussion session with the students of Masters in the International University of Japan (IUJ) on “Contemporary Alternative Development on Challenges and Opportunities of Micro Finance as an Effective Tool for Poverty Alleviation” in 2016. Mr. Chowdhury is a nationwide researcher and performed a series of study in Bangladesh. The study included socio-economic, cultural and political issues prevailing in the various parts of Bangladesh. Mr. Chowdhury has been serving with many other national, international agencies/organization in various capacities as a development practitioner.
