Tom is Head of Profession for Private Sector Development Advisers at the UK FCDO. He oversees a network of 97 accredited Advisers based in the UK and abroad, who work to strengthen the private sector to generate jobs, goods and services, investment and tax. Tom is responsible for thought leadership and technical standards in private sector development.
He read Economics at Cambridge University and began his career as a Government Economist in London. Following his Masters degree in Economics, he spent 5 years in Uganda working on rural development, entrepreneurship and microfinance.
He was CEO of the microfinance NGO ‘Five Talents’; he has worked in Impact Investing and was the Senior Economist at BBC Media Action overseeing media programming on business and entrepreneurship.
